Modern is a form of Dance as a Performing Art or how the human body moves in its surroundings. Students are not confined to the limitations or structures of Classical Ballet but are encouraged to use movements derived from expression of inner feelings and emotional intensity. Our Modern program incorporates the Horton Method, the work of Martha Graham, Isadora Duncan, Alvin Ailey and other Modern & Contemporary Dance pioneers. Students learn the basics of fall and recovery, contract and release, core strengthening, facial and body expression and flexibility and strength. Students taking Modern must be enrolled in Ballet class simultaneously.
